Since Gluaiseacht was formed in 2000, it has grown into a support network for new-comers and more experienced activists alike who wish to participate in direct action for environmental and social justice and find places to exchange ideas and skills across the island of Ireland.
If you feel that your objectives coincide with ours and you share similar ideas about how to organise and structure the movement, you will find like-minded people in Gluaiseacht who you can cooperate with to take action for change both locally and throughout Ireland.
Gluaiseacht has no formal membership. If you wish to get involved or you have a project/campaign which you feel fits with our objectives, get in contact and let’s get connected. The network is as valuable as you make it. Having a sense of community in activism is a huge motivator to making things happen!
In short, if you care about social and environmental justice, want to participate in actions that can bring about social and environmental change, are looking for a movement that is non-hierarchical, autonomous, and diverse and would like to meet other people with similar principles, you’ll find a welcome place in Gluaiseacht!
WHAT AM I GETTING INVOLVED IN?
In recent years, Gluaiseacht has been involved in a wide range of activities, from supporting Climate Camp (climatecampireland.ie) in 2024, workshops, education, to protesting against Shannon LNG, mining, and conservation campaigns.
On previous occasions, we supported the Keep Tulla Untouched Awareness Day in Co. Clare. The action was to inform and educate people about the prospecting licences which have been granted for gold, silver, baryte and base metal mining in the area and hosted speakers and musicians. It was organized with the Save our Sperrins campaign against the Canadian mining company, Dalradian. It’s a good example of how we work by educating, supporting community struggles for environmental justice and working towards networking between various local struggles and national groups.
We were also involved in supporting a protest run by Sli Eile against the huge energy use of Data Centres in Ireland on the theme ‘Data Centres are Energy Vampires’; supporting grassroots independent media; sending two delegates to attend the 8th International conference of La Via Campesina in Bogota in December, 2023, in conjunction with Talamh Beo; supporting the production of the CATU Rent Strike documentary, and sending activists to various training sessions organised by ULEX.
If you would like to participate in or co-organise similar activities, get involved! Contact us at gluaiseacht@gmail.com
"Never doubt that a small group of thoughtful, committed people can change the world. Indeed, it is the only thing that ever has."

We have previously hosted skillshares and it’s something we would love to do again so please contact us if you’d like to get involved or would like to host one!
At our previous skillshares, folks would participate by giving and/or partaking in workshops needed for proactive activism, from making bicycle generators, learning about open-source freeware computer programmes to gardening/permaculture and direct action workshops.
We need to be prepared, not only to defend the things we believe in, but also to proactively create the world we want to live in. Email us to get involved in organising the next skillshare!
